It is never to early to begin planning your study away experience; however, the actual application process will not begin until the semester prior to which you plan to go abroad.
To begin the planning process:
- Research the different program options (/international-programs/study-away/),
- Attend a WSU Study Abroad/Away Fair and an Information Session
- Determine WHERE you want to go and for HOW LONG
- Review your Degree Audit to determine which degree requirements you plan to fulfill abroad. Then compare that list to the offered courses.
- Make an appointment with the Study Away Advisor
-
Yes, Federal financial aid is portable to study abroad programs. Further, all affiliate programs will have scholarships you can apply to. The International Programs Office may also have scholarship funding to support your program.

Students will have different criteria for defining what the “right” program is. Oftentimes students will consider the following:
- Program length,
- Program cost,
- Program excusrions,
- Courses- will the courses offered fulfill degree requirements for major, minor, or general education requirements?
- Program Model- is the program affiliated with a local university or is it a “Global Center” model wherein you study only with other U.S. students?
